2006 Workshop - Colorado Springs, CO
International Workshop on Pollution Prevention and Sustainable Development

On November 1 and 2, 2006, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Centro Para Prevenção da Poluição (C3P) hosted a technical workshop at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The two-day workshop provided an excellent forum to showcase innovative and emerging pollution prevention technologies, share lessons learned, and identify new joint opportunities.  In total, 130 individuals from 5 countries attended the workshop.  Over 40 international scientists, technologists, and engineering experts presented PowerPoint slides on topics ranging from advanced coatings and coating removal technologies to renewable energy to lead-free electronics.  This exchange of solutions provided direct and tangible benefit to attendees from academia, defense, and commercial industries.  Logistical support for the workshop was provided by Headquarters Air Force Space Command (HQ AFSPC).

The workshop began with welcoming comments from James Leatherwood, Director of NASA’s Environmental Management Division and by General (ret.) Pelagio Castelo Branco, C3P Director General.  Mr. Jeffrey S. Ashby, NASA Astronaut and NASA/AF Space Command Liaison, provided a slide show of his trips to the International Space Station.  He graciously offered autographs to audience members.  Lt. Col. Shawn Jansen, Director of the Commanders Action Group, HQ AFSPC, provided a stimulating slide and video overview of AFSPC.

NASA and C3P would like to especially thank the members of the Shuttle Environmental Assurance Initiative SEA) and Air Force Space Command Foreman's group for holding their meetings in conjunction with the workshop.

Additional information about the workshop is also available by clicking on the links at left.
